Case Study: Sudden Bereavement & Practical Support for Siblings

Updated: 5 days ago

Client Background:

Two university students, living away from home, lost both of their parents within a short time during Covid.

With no immediate family nearby and no experience managing estates, funerals, or legal processes, they were left really overwhelmed and unsure where to start.

The Challenge:

  • Bereaved and away from home

  • No access to the family home or clear plan for estate admin

  • Needed to organise two funerals, manage university communication, and understand legal requirements

  • No local support system or experience dealing with admin/legalities

  • Emotionally overwhelmed and practically stuck

What We Did: (Kiren to fill in or edit as needed)

  • Guided them through funeral planning (flowers, hymns, food logistics)

  • Contacted banks, police, funeral directors and universities

  • Helped manage estate administration across two different legal systems (Scotland and England)

  • Provided weekly check-ins and voice note support to reduce overwhelm

  • Signposted to grief support services

  • [Add: How long was the support? What other systems/tools were used?]

The Outcome:

With Kiren’s guidance via The Middle Bit Methos, the siblings were able to move through the fog of loss with structure and support.

The combination of practical and consistent emotional presence meant they could focus on processing their grief while the essentials were handled.

“The practical guidance, the emotional steadiness and Kiren’s consistent presence are what’s helping us rebuild.”

Grief doesn’t come with a guidebook but you don’t have to figure it out alone.

From logistics to emotional steadiness, this is support for the hard stuff that no one tells you how to manage.
